EEBA Newsletter - December 2011

Editor’s Point of View

In this issue, Prof. Dekaris writes about lamellar corneal transplantation. This technique also influences the "traditional" criteria for donor corneal selection, as explained by Prof. Borderie.  As we move forward on the clinical front of corneal transplantation, it seems the regulatory process that imposed the 24 hours rule is a drawback for eye banks and lowers the availability of corneas for transplantation. We have discussed the 24 hours rule in our last newsletter, but the EEBA committee is still trying to act on this matter.

Other regulatory issues are the topic of Ms. Fehily's article on the SOHO project. As Prof. Reinhard and Dr. Maier the organizers of the last meeting in Freiburg reminds us of this wonderful event, we are also looking forward to our next meeting in Rotterdam.

Dr. Michael Cahane, editor (cahane@netvision.net.il)
